Arras : (in Dutch–Atrecht, in Latin–Atrebatum) is the second city in the Nord Pas-de-Calais region. Arras is located in the historic centre of the Artois region. Originally the home of a Celtic tribe, then a Roman garrison, then a Dutch and French province. The people are known as Arragois, and the locals speak a Picarde dialect (where the final “s” is sounded). The city has kept its charm and quality of life, whilst succeeding in creating many jobs. Standing at the junction of the rivers Scarpe and Crinchon, it is conveniently accessed by the A1 (Paris–Lille) and A26 (Calais–Rheims) motorways. (extracted from Wikipedia)
